Priority of Service to Veterans
As a recipient of funds from the U.S.Department of Labor, the Vermont Department of Labor is mandated to provide priority of service to qualified veterans when referring individuals to job openings, USDOL funded training programs, or related services.
In accordance with the Veterans' Priority of Service provisions of the Jobs for Veterans' Act (PL 107-288), qualified veterans will receive priority of services over non-veterans as determined by each program's mandatory eligibility criteria.
For more information on program eligibility and Veterans' Priority, please visit or contact your local Vermont Department of Labor Resource Center.
Veterans Helping Veterans
LVERs and DVOPs are veterans themselves, who have been specially trained to address the specific employment and training needs of veterans in the job market.
Disabled Veterans' Outreach Program (DVOP) Specialists provide intensive services to meet the employment needs of disabled and other eligible veterans, with a case-management approach that individually tailors training and job placement opportunities for those who are economically or educationally disadvantaged, including homeless veterans and veterans with severe barriers to employment.
Local Veterans' Employment Representatives (LVER) conduct outreach to employers and engage in advocacy efforts with hiring executives to increase employment opportunities for veterans and monitor all job listings from federal contractors and agencies to ensure veterans receive priority of service in referrals to these positions. LVER staff conduct seminars for employers and job search workshops for veterans seeking employment and facilitate priority of service in regard to employment, training, and placement services furnished to veterans by all staff members.
