The Vermont Department of Labor
Working Together for Vermont
The Department was created on July 1, 2005 through an Executive Order(#01-05) by Governor Douglas, which merges the Departments of Labor and Industry and Employment and Training. As stated by Governor Douglas, the new department "will improve and enhance services to the public by combining under one department: employment security, employment-related services, labor market information, safety and training for Vermont workers and employers, workers compensation, and wage and hour". The Department's primary focus is to help support efforts to make Vermont a more competitive place to do business and create good jobs.
The Department of Labor consists primarily of three divisions: the Division of Workers' Compensation and Safety, the Division of Workforce Development, and the Division of Unemployment Insurance and Wages. An organizational chart is available on the website for your reference.
The goal of the Department is to create one administrative umbrella that will strengthen critical areas, utilize available resources to their fullest, and provide an effective and efficient service delivery model for employers, workers and job seekers. We welcome your suggestions on how best to provide and improve those services.
One of the ways we hope to make it easier for you to access needed services and information is through this website. If you have any suggestions about the website, please contact Kelly Connelley at kelly.connelley@state.vt.us
